We aim to preserve natural grass in Vancouver’s parks, community centres, and schools.
Why we are against synthetic turfs
Environmental Impact
Costly to build and will only last 8 - 10 years
Loose rubber pellets in storm drains pollute our rivers and oceans
Will eventually end up in a landfill
Health Risks
Synthetic turf on hot days can reach temperatures in excess of 65°C, making it unusable for anyone, without a cooling process
Increased risk of turf burn injuries
Contains known carcinogens and neurotoxins like lead, benzene, vinyl chloride and more

Playing on hot days can cause dehydration, heat stroke and heat exhaustion due to synthetic turf heat retention
Bodily fluids, bird and animal droppings do not decompose, requiring regular sanitization
Field hardness must be regularly managed to prevent concussions for players
Community Impact
No access to the general public. Parks will become pay-to-play fields.
Increasing park usage will have a negative impact on street parking for residents
Pets won’t be able to play in the park
Our Mission
We seek to protect our parks and schools from the environmental, community and health costs of replacing natural grass with synthetic turf. We are open to exploring ways to improve natural grass, and or other alternatives as long as they do not negatively impact our neighbourhoods.
